Cyber risk is consistently expanding for businesses and many companies are not prepared. The session will identify activities key to developing a successful cyber security and insurance program, including best practices when responding to an insurable cyber event and the insurance claim process. The presentation will also include current cyber trends, along with real-life case examples to highlight critical areas of exposure and how they can be mitigated.


Jim Burgess is a Managing Director at Ankura, based in the Atlanta office. He has 22 years of experience in the field of forensic accounting and has extensive experience in the calculation of economic damages. His focus is managing engagements involving business interruption, property damage, cyber breach, product recall, and fidelity claims on behalf of corporate policyholders, as well as business interruption values assessments, lost profits claims, and litigation support services.

Jim has extensive experience in the analysis of economic losses resulting from catastrophic events, as well as the proper preparation, submission, and settlement of claims for those losses. He is considered an expert in business interruption, property damage, extra expense, and fidelity claims as well as the evaluation of business interruption risk exposures and values reporting. He also has experience in litigation support for lost profits, breach of contract, and other commercial disputes. His experience includes matters involving companies of all sizes and a variety of industries.  He is a Certified Public Accountant in Georgia.


Kendra Coleman is a Managing Director in the Forensic Accounting and Insurance Claims Consulting practice based in Atlanta, Georgia. She has more than 15 years of experience in the preparation of business interruption and property damage insurance claims. Ms. Coleman has calculated economic losses for insureds in a variety of industries including, but not limited to, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, telecommunications and retail. She also has experience in subrogation matters, employee fidelity claims, business interruption values assessments and has provided litigation support for lost profits cases.

Ms. Coleman earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from University of Georgia and her Master of Professional Accountancy from Georgia State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant in Georgia.

Matt Flora is a Managing Director at Ankura based in Baltimore, focusing on policy development, employee training, compliance audits, and managing client engagements. Realizing that technology alone cannot protect organizations from hackers, Matt works with executives to identify operational security weaknesses and develops the required procedures and supporting documentation to mitigate security risks and meet relevant compliance standards.

Matt has over a decade of experience within the cybersecurity industry, with a focus in risk management and governance. He has a deep understanding of complex security standards such as the National Institute for Standards in Technology’s Cybersecurity Framework (NIST CSF), The Center for Internet Security Critical Security Controls for Effective Cyber Defense (CIS CSC), HIPAA Security Rule, New York State Department of Financial Services Cybersecurity Requirements for Financial Service Companies (23 NYCRR 500), and NIST 800-171. Matt’s Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) certification, along with real-world experiences working with different types of entities, allows him to provide his clients with a unique approach to Cyber Risk Assessments and mitigation activities that takes into account all areas of the entity.
